Credit Options
Central Michigan University offers several options for earning and transferring
credit.
CMU Online
Students enrolling in online courses should have a working knowledge of computers
and the Internet. Proficiency in the following is necessary to take an online
course:
- How to create/save files on your computer. (Saving copies of homework and
assignments is essential.)
- How to send and receive e-mail attachments.
- How to copy/paste text from one program to another.
- How to download and install software or add-in programs.
- How to use virus detection software
Automatic diagnostic tests determine if your system meets the basic login and
operational requirements in the following areas:
- Operating Software
- Internet Browser
- Connection Speed
- Java
- Acrobat Reader
- Firewall
- Pop-Up Blockers
- Flash –Shockwave
- Media Player
- Real Player
- Quick Time
- MS Word
- MS PowerPoint

Transferring Credit
- Typically, a maximum of 64 semester hours of credit is applicable towards
meeting program requirements from a community college.
- The University Program requirements and the Competencies may be fulfilled by
those students who satisfy the MACRAO Agreement
- Competency courses require a grade of “C” or higher to satisfy the requirement.
- A grade of “C-” or better is required for a course to transfer.
- Vocational and remedial courses may not transfer.

Prior Learning
Three sections:
- Work Experience
- Training Experience
- Life Experience
Each section requires documentation and self assessment.
- Evaluators want to know what you learned from the experience
- 60 credits maximum

Planned Experience
- Available to undergraduate students
- Earn between 1 – 30 semester hours of credit
- Flexible individualized learning experience
- Tailored to fit the student’s objective
- Combines theory and application
- Student-formulated project, with advisor assistance
- Develops new knowledge and skills
- Fulfills CMU credit residency requirement
- Available every semester
