Prior Learning Overview

Academic credit may be received for learning through the normal course of job (work) related responsibilities, through training received in the performance of a job, or through personal life experiences, community service, etc.

Undergraduate students may apply up to 60 semester hours of prior learning credit toward degree completion. To pursue prior learning assessment credit for what has been learned, undergraduate students must have regular admission status.

Graduate degree students may apply up to 10 semester hours of prior learning credit toward their degree program and must have either conditional or regular admission status.

Please note that prior learning credit is not available to all students or programs.  Contact your academic advisor to discuss PLA and your program plan. For further information and to contact the Prior Learning Coordinator at 866-774-1018, priorlrn@cmich.edu, or complete our online form
